As ever, we are always juggling on the farm. Delivery is not available until after 6th July as we need to create some space in order to bag the logs up which means moving the cattle from the log shed after they’ve had their TB test. It like musical chairs but in a farm yard setting!

The sunflowers are growing really well this year and we are just waiting for them to bloom! We hope that we will be offering our Sunflower days in the last week of July/early August.

We’ll also be attending East Marsh Farm, Goxhill on Saturday 18th July, with a selection of fresh venison, so if you’re in the area we’d love to see you there.
While we won’t be attending Louth Farmers’ Market on a regular monthly basis for the foreseeable future, we’re looking forward to seeing customers at the Louth Food & Drink Festival on Saturday 27th September.

Stourton Woods offers a beautiful and relaxed woodland setting for couples looking for a unique outdoor wedding venue. Nestled amongst the mature trees of our arboretum, the venue is centred around the safari tent which offers views across the lakes and deer park. This, coupled with our highly flexible approach to celebrations, makes it a stunning venue for couples.
Couples can choose a fully flexible venue hire option, giving them the freedom to select their own caterers, entertainers, stylists and suppliers, or opt for thoughtfully curated packages that include catering, a celebrant-led blessing, entertainment, glamping accommodation and planning support. We actively encourage personalisation, allowing every wedding to reflect the couple’s unique style, whether rustic, elegant, festival-inspired or completely bespoke.
ALL of our wedding bookings benefit from a full wedding planning service from the point of booking all the way through to on-the-day support. Our bookings also include a full bar service.
For weddings booked from 2027 we will be offering mid week dates. We are just putting the finishing touches to our wedding packages for 2027 and beyond, and more information will be available on our website very soon.

Open Farm Sunday was a very special occasion as we celebrated 100 years of farming. The event brought together families, local producers, rural businesses and visitors keen to learn more about farming, food production and life on the estate.
Showcasing modern farm machinery, local produce, forestry demonstrations, countryside activities and tractor and trailer tours around the estate, while also reflecting on the history of farming at Stourton across generations it was a day that will be remembered!
It’s been lovely to receive so many thank-you messages from both visitors and exhibitors who enjoyed their day here – we were very pleased to put on this event and promote the importance of farming and the wider rural economy at the same time.
June is usually a slightly quieter month out on the land, as the crops finish growing and begin to ripen ahead of harvest in July and August. This year, our first crop to harvest is likely to be winter oilseed rape, which we expect to start combining around the middle of July. Overall, the crops are looking stronger than they did last year. Some areas of spring barley are thinner than we would like because of the dry weather, but most of the fields are looking healthy.
Much of June has also been spent preparing for harvest. The combine has now been serviced, the last of the grain is being moved out of store, and we are cleaning the buildings ready for the new crop. We have also moved around 1,200 tonnes of farmyard manure from our own cattle and from our neighbours through a “muck for straw” arrangement. This manure is valuable because it adds nutrients and organic matter back into the soil, feeds worms and other soil life, and helps the ground hold moisture during dry spells.
The silage has also been made for the cattle, and we are pleased with the yield considering how dry the spring was. The younger cattle are now grazing contentedly in the fields and have been making good use of the shade under the trees during the recent hot weather. Some of the older cattle have now left the farm and have finished well.
We are also making plans for the autumn. Changes to the Sustainable Farming Incentive scheme mean that some land currently in environmental management will return to growing crops later this year. We hope to sow directly into well-structured soil, which should help keep establishment costs down and support healthy crop growth.
The hinds have been quietly enjoying the cooler early June weather to deliver their new calves in the parks. We think we’re 90% through the season and last count was 40 running along the fence-lines. It’s lovely to see the next generation ‘pronking about’ enjoy the swimming ponds during the heatwave and their natural environment. It really is our favourite time of the year.
