Venison steaks are a healthy alternative to beef steaks as they are much lower in saturated fat. They are also rich in iron and B vitamins and as it contains conjugated linoleic acid it supports heart health too!
Once defrosted, most of these steaks need very little preparation or cooking, simply brush over with a little vegetable oil, season and then fry or grill on a high heat. Two minutes on each side should be plenty so that the steak is still pink in the middle, any longer and you risk the meat becoming tough. We recommend serving the steaks with sheostring fries and perhaps alongside some delicious locally grown and grilled Bomber County Asparagus or crunchy salad leaves and relish or slaw.
The braising steak benefits from slow cooking so add an onion, some carrot & celery together with some stock to a slow cooker and gently leave to tick over and by supper time you’ll have a lovely warming evening meal to enjoy at the end of a slightly chilly day, delicious with creamy mashed potatoes!
