Woodchip, fresh from the woods – just in time for spring garden updates
Just in time for spring projects, we’ve taken delivery of our brand new chipper. This means we can now produce our own wood chip using timber from the estate and other local Lincolnshire woodlands, keeping everything sustainable and close to home.
It only arrived last week, but the team wasted no time putting it through its paces. Starting with clearing overgrown areas around the yard and quickly moving onto larger jobs, it’s already proving to be a fantastic addition.
We’re now bagging up fresh wood chip, ready for delivery straight to your door in our transit van.
Ideal for garden borders, pathways and chicken runs, it’s a simple way to tidy and refresh your outdoor spaces while helping to suppress weeds.
If you’re planning a garden refresh, you can order online.

On the Estate

Work to clean the Safari Tent has been well underway as we get ready for the season ahead.
Outside, the last of the autumn leaves have been cleared away and Will has given the decking a full pressure wash – a bigger job than expected, but well worth it as it’s come up beautifully. Inside, the whole team got to work giving the tent a thorough top-to-bottom spring clean, including the outer roof and windows, so everything is fresh.
Next on the list is painting and treating the doors, floors and decking ahead of our re-opening in May!
We’ve also added new exterior gates on either side of the Safari Tent, expertly installed by JC Gardening & Fencing Services. They’ve really smartened up the space and finished it off nicely.
Forthcoming Events
We’re looking forward to kicking off our 2026 events season in May:
The wedding fair is a great opportunity to explore two venues in one visit and meet a range of local suppliers. If you’re planning your big day, it’s well worth coming along for some inspiration.
On the Farm
We have finally had some dry kind spring weather! The team on the farm have been very busy this month after getting held back from land work in February due to the wet weather. We are currently 85% drilled on our spring barley area with the last two fields to be drilled in the first week of April.
Spring Oats are all drilled and establishment has been good. Fertilising crops and drilling have been the main activities this month with a majority of the land needing some light cultivation before drilling to help produce a suitable seed bed after such a wet winter.
The winter crops are all looking well, have greened up and began their rapid spring growth phase. We will be monitoring these crops for any disease and weeds as the spring progresses and will treat accordingly. Our Winter Oilseed Rape crops will very soon produce lovely yellow flowers and be attracting all sorts of insects to help pollinate them. Oilseed Rape does self pollinate but some help from insects greatly helps this process. Our Winter beans will also be producing flowers in a few weeks time and these also provide a great source of nectar.
The cattle are continuing to grow well and the new batch will be turned out to our herbal leys towards the end of April when they will be big enough to make full use of grazing the mixed sward and hopefully the weather is warmer by then!
We have moved quite a bit of wheat and barley off the farm this month and will continue to do so all the way until June. Our thoughts are never far away from the incoming harvest and the preparation of the grain stores for new crop will commence once we get some empty bays in our main grain store.
The machinery has proved to be fairly reliable this spring with only a couple of minor issues but the service teams of various dealers have been great at keeping us up and running.
Deer Diary

The deer are almost ready to transition out of their winter routine and be released into the parks, we’re just waiting for the grass to come through and temperatures to rise slightly.
There’s always one exception though. One particularly independent calf (pictured) never made it into the roundhouse at all this winter and seems perfectly content with her choice…
